Namaskar! It's been long enough. I have been excessively self-critical about my posts and of the six that are in progress this shall be the first one to reach publishing point. I am going to attempt keeping this as impersonal as possible so that my fear of revealing too much doesn't copulate with my fear of appearing too simple minded. I think you know what happens when these two apprehensions unite; their ugly progeny, inhibition kicks in and prevents my hitting the publish post button. Perhaps this post should be a lesson in button clicking. For those of you armed with a socially-minded finger, here are some small ways to make "a difference" (shouldn't it be called an addition in reference to it's contributional qualities as opposed to a subtractive nature..anyway...) In increasing levels of involvement:
1. Light : December 1st is World AIDS Day. Bristol-Myers-Squibb is donating a $1 for every candle light on this webpage: www.lighttounite.com . The money goes to the National AIDS fund.
2. Medium: For the click-happy, www.thehungersite.com , just go there every day and click through all the tabs and on all the "Click Here to Give - it's FREE " buttons. You can even join the mailing list to get an email reminder to click every morning. For those of you who read this for obsessive stalking purposes (yeah right, like I'm cool enough to have such "fans") this is the first thing I do every morning. I get out of bed and stumble across the room to the alarm clock. I wake my compie and check my gmail. Even if no one else sends me love, I always have that loyal hungersite.com email. I click on the link in it and do all seven clicks then I crawl back into bed...5 more minutes of sleep that slip into half an hour.
3. Gargantuan: www.freerice.com donate infinite amounts of rice. I try to go upto 1,000 grains everyday. For those of you who revel in learning new words that you can then show off on your blog ;P it's the place to be. For every word that you define correctly, you contribute 10 grains of rice to the United Nations. Don't worry if your vocabulary isn't as expansive as you would like. It adapts the level difficulty to match your performance so that you are challenged to the optimal level.
4. Searching for more? : http://www.goodsearch.com/ This is a search engine that will donate a penny to an organization of your choice every time you do a search. Imagine how that can add up.
5. Holiday Shopping: There are many sites now a days that donate to your chosen charity something like 20% of what you spent. Goodsearch has a component like that called Goodshop and thehungersite is also a great place to buy your holiday gifts.
I think that's all for your internet give-something-for-nothing-thanks-to-the-wonders-of- marketing education. If you are inspired to do more or if you have something to add please leave a comment.

You're back! Nice to see you and welcome back.
I'm all gung-ho about the spirit of giving - and its not just the Christmas season round the corner. When love oozes, one gives - its as simple as that. But tell me - does one give indiscriminately?
What or who are we trying to help and why? Would that same time, energy, money etc. been better deployed elsewhere? Such questions plague me quite often. Do they worry you? How do you deal with them?
Yet another thought .. rather a question .. why are you afraid of appearing simple minded? Speaking for myself, I would be happy to appear simple minded, and in fact I try pretty hard to do that (and am quite successful, generally speaking). A lot of effort goes into shielding complexity, and the simpler your interface with the world, the more successful you can be. Unless of course you are immersed in intellectual chic, compelling you to look sophisticated in an artsy kind of way.
Hmmm. Clicking, eh?
Good suggestions. And good job pointing out your 'new policy' via facebook. So when are those other posts going to pop? Yes, that's a rhetorical question.
Interesting .. I guess I'll keep tabs on your blog...
BTW, enjoy life ..don't worry about heaven and stuff.. and as the wise "ambassador of India" once said to me "don't take yourself too seriously"...
